The Industry Code For Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes During COVID-19
After consultation with consumers and aged care providers, the code for visiting aged care homes during COVID-19 has been released. It was released by 13 aged care peak bodies and aged care consumer advocacy groups. The Code for visiting aged care homes is welcomed by most, clearing up any confusion regarding the guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The purpose of the code is to ensure that all residents can have visitors, but that aged care facilities will still need to follow federal and state governments’ coronavirus restrictions. This will minimise the risks when it comes to ensuring that the most vulnerable members of society are protected against COVID-19. All parties involved must work together to ensure the safety of residents while looking after their social and emotional wellbeing also. Aged care providers, residents, staff and visitors need to work together through this challenging time.
The code has been received by many, as stated by COTA, “It cements a human rights approach to care that both protects and respects aged care residents and their visitors.” You can now read the complete Industry Code For Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes During COVID-19.
