Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes – COVID-19

The Industry Code For Visiting Nursing Homes During COVID-19

In consultation with consumers and providers, the release of the code for visiting residential aged care homes during COVID-19 happened. Involved parties included thirteen aged care peak bodies, and aged care consumer advocacy groups. The release of the code for visiting aged care homes saw a welcomed response. It clears up any confusion regarding the guidelines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The purpose of the code is to ensure that all residents can have visitors. But, aged care facilities will still need to follow federal and state governments’ coronavirus restrictions. The risk minimisation ensures that the aged are protected against COVID-19. All parties involved must work together to ensure the safety of residents. They also need to consider their social and emotional wellbeing too. Aged care providers, residents, staff and visitors need to work together through this challenging time.

The industry code was well received by many people. As stated by COTA, “It cements a human rights approach to care that both protects and respects aged care residents and their visitors.” You can now read the complete Industry Code For Visiting Residential Aged Care Homes During COVID-19.
